Launch of the Dewalt DCB184 5.0Ah Battery
Dewalt.com.hr nearly here, the new is on the brink of arrival to the UK and we thought we’d take a minute to run through what Dewalt are offering us with this latest jump up in class.
There are certain guarantees when upgrading to a higher Ah battery. First is increased Runtime per charge. This means your tools will simply last longer, so more time spent doing what you’re good at. On the flip side though when you have a higher Ah, the longer the charge time, meaning that your tools are going to last longer on site, they’ll also take a bit longer to charge. This we know already, but just in case you had any questions like: how much longer is the runtime going to be? How long will it take it charge? Will it fit my current Dewalt Cordless Power Tools? Then we have prepared this article to help you make the decision to upgrade.
Dewalt DCB184, Makita and the 5.0Ah race
The news that Dewalt are launchingDewalt DCB184 5ah XR Li-ion Battery DCB184 5Ah battery is not much of a surprise to those obsessed with Dewalt or customers that keep a canny eye over power tool market. As a brand they also try to keep one step ahead of their fiercest rivals Makita, and with rumours rife of a Makita 5.0Ah Battery the BL1850 on its way, Dewalt have wasted no time in developing and releasing the DCB184.
What does the DCB184 5.0Ah XR Battery give me?
So let’s look at the spec and see what the new Dewalt battery offers users. Firstly, and most impressively Dewalt claim that the additional 1Ah, (from 4ah to 5ah) enables an extra 33% of runtime over the Dewalt XR li-ion 4ah battery or 66% increase over the 3Ah version.
As for charge time there is a slight increase from the 4ah, which was able to charge from flat in 70 minutes, the Dewalt 5.0Ah DCB184 battery charges from flat in around 90 mins. Which may seem like a long charge time, but Dewalt are so confident in the runtime from these batteries that they don’t think anyone will have an issue with the downtime.
Like its predecessors the Dewalt XR 5Ah battery has Dewalt’s overheat, overload and deep discharge protection, meaning that the battery will cut all power to the machine if you’re ever in danger of damaging either of them.
Dewalt have also gone to some effort to make sure that the DCB184 is exactly the same weight and size as the 4Ah battery.
As with the rest of the XR li-ion battery range there is an LED indicator on the rear of the battery that highlights the amount of charge left in the battery, so you’ll never be caught short of juice half way up a 15 story renovation.
Already using Dewalt Cordless? No Problem
One thing Dewalt wanted to ensure is that any new li-ion batteries would be able to fit onto any of the XR li-ion range without any exceptions or problems.
This is welcome news for current Dewalt XR users because the dcb184 is completely backwards compatible with the entire range of slide on battery tools. From Cordless Jigsaws, to Grinders, Recips, Radios and Drill Drivers, Dewalt’s latest Li-ion battery offering will work with all of them.
To Sum Up:
• Dewalt 5.0Ah Model No. DCB185
• It’s the same size and weight as the 4.0Ah version
• 66% Increase in runtime over the 3Ah
• 90 Minute charge time from flat
